WHY DONATING SINGLE DONOR PLATELETS IS IMPORTANT ?

Platelets are cells required for blood clotting & prevent bleeding.

Single Donor Platelet(SDP’s) are a valuable resource for patients who have low platelet counts due to various medical conditions including Chemotherapy induced thrombocytopenia, Dengue fever, solid organ and hematopoietic transplantation ,critical care patients and platelet function disorders.

SDP donation involves collecting platelets from single donor using a special process called plateletpheresis using apheresis machine which provides higher quality and concentrated platelet product compared to whole blood donation.

As platelets have a short life span of 5 days we require a constant donor supply.

SDP reduce risk of transmission of infectious diseases and allo-immunization compared to multiple donor platelet products.

Donors feel comfortable during donation in our state of art Blood Centre and adequate rest and refreshment will be provided. Their body replaces the liquid part within 48 hours. A donor can donate 24 times/year.
